Rules for Friendly Competition and Event Details
What is Soo Sings for Kids?
In the spirit of supporting local children, having fun and in fellowship, Soo Sings for Kids (SSFK) is a teambuilding event that began in the fall of 2012. Based on the popular Canadian TV show Canada Sings, colleagues in Sault Ste. Marie workplaces sing and dance joyously in a friendly glee competition.
Where does Soo Sings for Kids happen?
The Sault Community Theatre Center (White Pines)
On-Stage Dates
• “no tech”: April 14th and 15th
• “cue to cue”: May 4th,5th,6th,7th
• Dress Rehearsal: May 12th 7pm
• Performance: May 13th 7pm
How does it work?
Teams will:
• complete the registration form and fees online at www.soosings.ca
• select a local registered children’s charity*
• submit song selection
• learn a song/dance number to enter into a friendly talent competition
• be allowed vocal and dance mentors to help with singing and choreography
• win a cash prize for their chosen charity no matter which placement they receive

Please Note – Soo Sings for Kids is not responsible for any injury that may occur during rehearsals. The Sault Community Theatre Centre does have insurance should anything happen while on stage.
Who can participate?
• Current and retired employees of the workplace. No children/family members.
• Longstanding volunteers (>2 years) of the workplace**.
• Special requests and questions should be submitted to info@soosings.ca for review.
How many performers are allowed per team?
Minimum 10 to a maximum of 25
Combining workplace teams
Workplaces with fewer than 10 participating employees/volunteers may join up with another workplace team as long as the number of participants does not exceed the maximum of 25. Team leads from each combining workplace must contact info@soosings.ca for review.
Team Leads
Teams will select a Team Lead and alternate contact for communication with the SSFK executive committee. Team leads (or alternate) are required to attend all mandatory planning meetings and will receive meeting details via e-mail. Team leads are responsible for communication between their team and mentors as well as the SSFK executive committee.
Mentors
• Local singing and dancing mentors have generously come forward to assist the teams with their preparations and rehearsals. Teams may select their own mentors or retain their mentors from the previous years. If you are a new team and do not have mentors in mind, the SSFK executive committee will do their best to assign mentors to you.
• Your assigned mentor cannot be part of the performance, however in some situations a workplace may have an employee who has the skills to be a mentor and they can be approved to be your mentor as long as they play only a supporting role in your performance.
Registration details
Online registration at www.soosings.ca will require a minimum non-refundable $300 payment ($30/team member- minimum of 10 members per team). The final list of team names, your charity’s name and payment for the added team members ($30/person) will be required by no later than APRIL 6th.
Music
• Teams may select one song or a medley of songs- not to exceed 5 minutes long. Please keep in mind that this time limit is inclusive of the entire performance (from the time the lights come up/song starts, to the time the lights go out)
• Song choice(s) must be unique for the year and must be submitted to info@soosings.ca by February 10th. Choices are fulfilled on a first come, first serve basis.
• No live music/bands/instruments!
• No background vocals or pre-recorded vocals

• Teams are responsible for any fees associated with the music track
• If you have submitted to use a song and are no longer using it- notify the executive committee by e-mailing info@soosings.ca in case another team had requested the song and were denied.
Rehearsals
• Teams set up their own rehearsal times and spaces
• If you don’t have a rehearsal space available please consider the following: churches, John Rhodes, library, Northern Community Centre, school gyms, under the pavillion downtown etc.
• There is no limit to the number of practices your team may have before the night of the show
• Please note- extra practices at the Sault Community Theatre Centre are not allowed. Failure to comply with this rule will result in your team losing the right to place in the top three. Costumes, Props, Makeup etc
• Teams are responsible for securing these and for any associated costs
• Props must be pre-approved by the producer and stage manager. Please ensure that they can easily be moved on and off stage by the two stage hands, and that they require minimal setup.

*The charity you choose must have a registration number with the Canada Revenue Agency and MUST be submitted by APRIL 6.
